Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 17 November 2021 – District 2020’s global entrepreneur programme, Scale2Dubai has recently forged five new international partnerships with prominent entities, namely ProColombia, OCO Global, ProChile, MAGIC Malaysian Agency, and Global South Tech.
Notably, the signing of the collaboration agreement with ProColombia— an entity that promotes international tourism and foreign investment in Colombia, and is also committed to supporting the growth of Colombian start-ups in overseas markets — was a milestone moment marked by an in-person ceremony at Expo 2020 Dubai attended by the President of Colombia, H.E. Iván Duque Marquéz, the President of ProColombia, Flavia Santoro Trujillo, and Najeeb Al Ali, Executive Director, Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau.
These latest alliances reaffirm District 2020’s commitment to empowering global and national start-ups and entrepreneurs through its Scale2Dubai programme — which has been designed to give high-potential start-ups and small businesses the on-ground support to establish themselves in the UAE within District 2020, while also helping them to overcome the challenges of scaling. Furthermore, it marks significant progress for the Scale2Dubai programme in onboarding more international organisations who will facilitate connections and encourage talented global entrepreneurs to explore the opportunities being presented through Scale2Dubai and District 2020’s innovation ecosystem and community.
Scale2Dubai has to-date established numerous agreements with regional and international partners from across a cross-section of markets such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dubai SME, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund Republic of Namibia, Slovene Enterprise Fund, MAGNiTT, British Centre for Business, and Founder Institute.
Tala Al Ansari, Director, Innovation Ecosystem and Scale2Dubai, commented on the latest partnerships: “Our most recent collaboration with five new organisations emphasises District 2020’s commitment to supporting international innovators and entrepreneurs; from across the globe. We are actively pursuing such partners for Scale2Dubai as we acknowledge the pivotal role of start-ups and small businesses in driving transformative, innovation-led solutions and recognise that they are key to strengthening and diversifying District 2020’s innovation ecosystem as well as the entrepreneur landscape in Dubai and the UAE.
We are aiming to support these global businesses in the most challenging phase of scaling, by offering a purposefully curated ecosystem that prioritises their needs and those of the future workforce in a rapidly evolving international landscape; we are giving them the opportunity to take advantage of Dubai as an unrivalled launchpad, as well as collaborate with Fortune 500s, Academic Institutes, Labs, Accelerators and Venture Capital.”
Flavia Santoro, President of ProColombia commented: “Our collaboration with District 2020 and Scale2Dubai means we can build bridges between the start-up ecosystem and economy in Colombia with the thriving entrepreneur landscape that exists in Dubai and the UAE. As an organisation we want to create opportunities for businesses to flourish and share their innovations outside of South America. That’s why we strongly believe this partnership and District 2020’s Scale2Dubai programme will provide the best calibre of support and connections our start-ups and founders need in order to thrive in a new market and beyond — through to the rest of the Middle East and South Asia (MEASA) region.”
District 2020’s enabling environment will be an ideal home for budding businesses and entrepreneurs, and is designed to stimulate creativity, knowledge exchange and innovation. Businesses will become part of District 2020’s human-centred smart urban community, which will provide a fully integrated destination to live and work. Promoting a balanced and social lifestyle, the mixed-use community combines the best of the physical and the virtual, by combining next generation connectivity, flexible workplaces, modern urban living, experiential events, culture, learning, retail, hospitality, and F&B offerings, in one destination.
Scale2Dubai is an equity-free programme, and its benefits include two years of free working space, a two-year visa, business set-up support, access to special rates from service providers, access to social and networking events, and more. The programme has recently completed the applications submission for the first and second cohort. With presence at regional and international conferences and events including Expo 2020, Web Summit and GITEX, there has already been great interest in District 2020’s Scale2Dubai programme from promising international start-ups and small businesses.
Following the short-listing and evaluation in Q1 2022, the announcement of the first cohort of successful applicants is expected by March 2022 at the end of Expo 2020 Dubai. Those chosen to be part of the programme will be able to move into their workspaces at District 2020 shortly after Expo 2020 closes, when District 2020 begins its phased opening by October 2022.
